In January I was at the Halston's Wedding Fair showcasing my work and talking to future brides and grooms. I was also holding a mini competition with the winning couple receiving 30% off my USB and Print Collection Wedding Package and a FREE couples shoot with a makeup artist, (Lauren Amy Makeup - who I can't rave about more, not only because she's a great friend, but she is truly the best makeup artist in Cumbria, *disclosure* in my view). But anyway, I picked the winner in a lucky dip way, out of a box, and they were... DRUM ROLL PLEASE... Sam and Nicky!
I'd asked them both if they had any preference as to where they wanted the shoot, and they didn't, so Lauren and I did a little bit of a day out/location scouting and came up with the idea of doing it at St Bees Beach - a pretty beach with a big cliff you can walk up beside it. Sam and Nicky were very happy with the idea and that was that - we had organised our shoot.
The day came last Sunday for the shoot, and unfortunately the weather started of with a bit of snow and a lot of rain! That didn't stop us though and with big umbrellas in my boot Lauren and I set off to meet them. LUCKILY once we arrived at the beach the weather had dried up and it even looked like the sun may come out!
We sat down in the Cafe on the beach front - somewhere that was warm and dry and with large available amounts of coffee! - and Lauren started on Sam's makeup.
The day was such fun, we were overjoyed that Sam and Nicky won the lucky dip prize, because they are seriously the nicest couple, and we didn't seem to stop laughing the entire day!
We were only at St Bees for a couple of hours - that's all you really need for a couples shoot in my view. I'm not one for prolonging the time people spend in front of a camera, unless you are a model no-one feels comfortable with a big lens pointing in their face! But hopefully with mine and Laurens consistent chatter and giggles between us all we were able to make Sam and Nicky feel very comfortable.
Me and Lauren do provide joint couple shoot sessions together at either a location of your choice or, like Sam and Nicky did, you can leave the choice down to us and we can find a beautiful outside area for it - however I can't guarantee the weather for it, but I do have back ups with plenty of scarves and umbrellas!
