When the phone rang I just assumed I was being sold advertising space... so many times I get phone calls from magazines about placing adverts and my answer is always, “it’s not for me thank you.” ⠀ ⠀ So this time while I was half listening, half putting on my trainers to go out for a run, I got the shock of my life. ⠀ ⠀ I was being placed in Carlisle Livings ‘40 Under 40’ issue! 40 inspirational women donning the pages of the magazine to celebrate #internationalwomensday this month. ⠀ My reaction... “who me?!” ⠀ Since the call I’ve been stuck in the house because my head has doubled in size - it trebled when I read the title ‘Wedding Photographer and Influencer’ under my name... this head can’t fit out the door anymore! ⠀ ⠀ In all seriousness, I’m thrilled to be placed alongside some awe inspiring women, to be a ‘one to watch’ and to help pave the way for women #entrepreneurs in and around Cumbria. We have so much to give and I think sometimes people shy away from creating something themselves. We feel like we need to have 'experience' with larger firms before we can validate our own ideas, when in reality that's soooo not that case.
I remember when I first got into the photography industry I had a fair few back handed compliments thrown in my direction, as well as people telling me I should gain 'some real' experience first. 3 years down the line and I'm fully booked for the next 12 months and 70% booked for the year after. Sometimes putting your dreams off just means you have to wait longer for what you want. I'm impatient, I don't wait! ⠀ ⠀ So, here’s to all the women making something for themselves. May we always follow our dreams and create our own lives!
