TUESDAY TIPS - TRUSTING LOCATIONS

One of my favourite parts of my job is taking something so ordinary and making it look absolutely amazing!

This happens most often when it comes to picking portrait locations for both the couple photographs and the bridal/grooms party photographs. If there is one thing that I love and appreciate about my couples, it’s that they trust me.

Sometimes I select locations that most people wouldn’t consider attractive. For example, the image below was taken down a back-alley road, a location most people would be considerably sceptical about! The wedding venue was in the middle of a city, so choices for outside photographs were limited, but that doesn’t stop me! I have to thank all of the passing public for all of my photographs on this day, we had cars coming and going on this road, as well as cyclists and shoppers, but everyone was so helpful in stopping traffic for us and waiting until I had got the shots I knew I could in this location.

There was nothing special about this road, personally I just loved the brick work! However, because the bridal party trusted me and they were willing to try it, they now have such natural and fun photographs. The interaction with the passing public just made the photographs even more fun and honest in laugher and movement.

So, I always do encourage my couples to trust me! But if you have an idea for a location you’d love to try out then I’m more than happy to work with you and listen to ideas to help create the BEST photographs for you both!

When finding a location I'm always on the look out for the best possible lighting - great access to the sky for natural light - and either a really pretty, or just a uniquely interesting backdrop. Below you can see some examples...

The above photograph was a massive hit with loads of my couples and followers! It looks like it could be set somewhere abroad with those beautiful big leaves! When in reality... check out the photograph below, I've circled the greenery I used for this photograph! It was taken in central London.

The photograph below was taken in the middle of a church yard... I just LOVED the colours of the brick wall.

Below you can find us casually stopped at a bus stop that was FULL of graffiti! But I honestly just love this photograph.

And finally... when the outside of Somerset House in London is actually better than the inside courtyard!

I hope you've enjoyed this months 'Tuesday Tips', I'm trying to give you all a little bit more of an insight into what I see through my lens!
