Their Wedding Story
On the 17th March 2022 I had the absolute pleasure spending the day with Helen, Martin, their little 8-month-old Ruben and all their family and friends for their wedding at Hidden River Barn.
With lots of Martin’s family travelling across from Germany, Hidden River was the perfect place to have a weekend long celebration showcasing the English countryside perfectly – one family member actually saw a deer drinking from the river! Can you get anything more idyllic?!
We started the day in the main house with the most chilled out vibes you can imagine (however getting to know Helen throughout the planning process I wouldn’t have expected anything less) with the only real noise coming from the little ones. After 8 month old Ruben got dressed he performed perfectly by falling asleep just in time for Helen to take a few minutes for herself to get in her absolutely stunning dress – if that’s not the most well behaved little one ever I don’t know what is! Also you HAVE to check out her dad’s first look, it really was beautiful!
The whole day flowed seamlessly (with only maybe a heckler or two from the children in the ceremony! ) It’s obvious to see how important family is to Helen and Martin with the day based around keeping things as easy going as possible with lots of candid photographs and just fun all-round… something that’s potentially like their first date. One that started off easy going by just meeting up for a coffee at Newcastle train station at 11am, then didn’t end for 11 more hours! Meeting on a dating app, Helen was supposed to message her mum when she got there to let her know everything was ok, however that message never came because Helen was having such a good time (and her mum most likely getting more and more worried!) Six years later though on their wedding day (which coincidentally was the same date as Helen’s grandma’s wedding date – booked without realising this fact!!) I’m sure Helen’s mum didn’t mind not getting a text now since it’s ended in Ruben, a house together, and the most amazing wedding day!
Since that very first date at Newcastle train station Martin kept all the receipts of coffees together, meals out, train tickets and every other date you can imagine, that is until he proposed. He’d hung them all up in timeline order throughout their house ready for Helen to walk in and relive every moment together before he got down on one knee and popped the question. I was wowed by the thoughtfulness and the romantic gesture when Martin told me yesterday about it all!
As I’m sure it’s very evident now from this post, Helen and Martin are truly meant for each other and I’m so honoured that I got to capture a small element of their story together on their wedding day. For now I’ll let the photographs tell the rest of their story, but I’d love to wish Helen, Martin and Ruben the most amazing life together – to the new Mr & Mrs Nuernberg!
